1/ Recharge your self-esteem

Too much stress erodes your self-confidence. This BLOG Post includes simple exercises that can recharge your self-esteem whenever you need a boost.

We all have stress in life. Stress can erode our self-esteem. No one likes that! Luckily, we can employ coping mechanisms when we are stressed that allow us to navigate the stress gracefully and intact.

If you find yourself falling into a negative mindset, that is your sign to stop, drop and roll. JK. Don’t do that unless you find yourself on fire. But in all seriousness, a negative attitude is your sign to take a moment and employ coping mechanisms. What coping mechanisms? Well, let’s dive into some really easy ones that will help you get back on track and stop you from spiraling or getting “stuck”.

1) Breathe: Breathing intentionally can really bring you good energy. Have you heard of “Box Breathing”? Let’s try it! Sit up straight and breathe in through your nose for five seconds, hold your breath for five seconds, and finally exhale through your mouth for five seconds. Now do this two more times, but for seven seconds on the second round and for ten seconds on the third round.

Breathing intentionally can make a world of a difference in your mood and really help regulate your nervous system. You will feel the stress melting away and you’ll receive a boost of confidence that will help you move more seamlessly throughout your day. Bonus points if you place your hands on your lap or on your heart and maybe even close your eyes for focus.

2) Move: Movement helps get our blood flowing and energy up. It doesn’t have to be intense movement to really count or make a difference in our self-esteem either. That’s the best part.

Try this: While you are practicing the intentional breathing exercise outlined above, stand with your feet shoulder width apart and firmly planted on the floor. While you inhale through your nose, lift both hands up to the sky and STRETCH your body and spine up. Hold your breath while lifting yourself up onto your tip-toes. Then, when you finally exhale through your mouth, swing your hands and arms and upper body down towards your toes in a forward fold at your hips. You can stay there for how ever long feels comfortable to you. It should feel great.*

I’ve tried all sorts of movement and exercise. I’ve found that the best type for me - my body, soul, and mind - is Pilates. I just love how that modality of exercise fuses intentional breathing and movement. It’s truly the best combo, IMO! Together, intentional breathing and movement will make you feel unstoppable.

*Please note that if you should get approval from your doctor before starting any exercise routine. For some people forward folding feels terrible. Your doctor should help you decide it it is for you.
